New space for a local favorite.
When Taj, a beloved South Portland Indian restaurant, sought a new home, they turned to Woodhull to create an atmosphere as rich and inviting as their cuisine. Owner Sai Guntaka envisioned a space that celebrated both tradition and contemporary flair.
Textures, colors, and life.
Working closely with Sai, Woodhull designed and built a vibrant interior that captures the essence of Taj. The space is infused with color and texture, a testament to the rich tapestry of Indian culture. A custom mural graces the walls, while playful neon signage, crafted by local artisans and friends adds a touch of modern whimsy.
A rich history. A new look.
Glossy green ceramic tiles, reminiscent of traditional Indian pottery, create a cool and refreshing counterpoint to the warmth of woodwork. Terra-cotta breeze blocks introduce patterns of light and shadow, adding depth and dimension to the dining experience. An antique mirror reflects the restaurant’s lively energy. The result is a captivating space that delights the senses, inviting guests to relax and savor the exquisite flavors of Taj.
