A private retreat

Seeking a home that resonated with their vision, a local couple approached Woodhull to build the dream on a unique property in York, Maine. Characterized by its privacy and challenging terrain, the river property became the driving force behind the design.

Tucked away

The dramatic reveal of the site, unfolding as one descends towards the river, inspired a clean, multi-level design that integrates with the landscape. The upper-level entry provides a sense of arrival, while the journey downward gradually unveils the expansive scale of the home. Allowing the house to sit along a terrace in the landscape allows the house to maintain a low profile from the entry side; respecting the landscape rather than trying to dominate it.

Sunlit ease

Designed with the clients’ future needs in mind, the main level features single-story living, while the lower level accommodates additional family spaces and guest rooms, ensuring privacy for all. A full-length light monitor bathes the interior with warm, diffused natural light.
