The perfect spot.

Nestled along the banks of the Damariscotta River, the River View renovation reoriented the home around the water, creating a space that flows easily for everyday living and fully embraces the surrounding landscape. A true before-and-after transformation, the home’s original layout was overly complex and disconnected from its stunning natural setting.

A new outlook.

To open the home to the river, the entire back of the house was removed. A slanted roof with skylights was replaced by a flat roof system and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame sweeping views of the Damariscotta. The new open-concept layout centers around the kitchen, with a mudroom and entry tucked behind it, and the dining and living spaces flowing toward the water. Throughout, green tile and warm wood tones echo the surrounding environment while keeping the focus on the main feature—the view. Downstairs, a bedroom and bathroom were added alongside a cozy family TV room.

Grounded in place.

Outside, Eastern White Cedar siding grounds the structure in its coastal setting, weathering naturally over time. Clean lines and thoughtful angles add depth and variation, giving the home a modern edge while maintaining a quiet connection to the landscape. The exterior, like the interior, balances texture and form in service of simplicity, letting the river remain the focal point from every perspective.
